Vario was Savant's second studio album
released in 2012. The man behind savant is Aleksander Vinter, who has
had many musical achievements, including a Norwegian grammy nomination. The
Album mainly consists of dubstep with a hint of dance and a few other
electronic genre's.
The album begins with “Splinter”, A
steady but rather heavy sounding song. The main melody is nice to
listen to and the track manages to sound flowing even though its made
up of segments of sound. “Shadow” has a rather dark sounding
introduction and has an unusual feature of a thick Scottish voice
(Qwentalis). The voice distortion isn't harsh on the ears and fits in
well with everything else. The lyrics are quite deep and meaningful
and the vocals make the song easy to listen to while still being full
of emotion.”Hero From The Past” starts of quite simple and
majestically but rapidly speeds up into a fast paced tune. The main
section is really busy sounding and this adds to the excitement and
adrenaline. There is a lot of experimentation with speed and
distortion which is a bit different and nice to listen to. This is my
favourite song of the album and I particularly like the ending where
it just kind of collapses.”Party Machine” begins with a glitched
voice, the main section of the song is very bouncy sounding due to
the heavy bass and beat. The song continues to build up before become
much lighter and easier to listen to. The bass gradually comes back
in for a spectacular end. Overall this song was more dance like than
the past songs.”Heart Shaped Mushroom Cloud” begins with a
nuclear warning message. A heavy bass jumps in and the song becomes
quite menacing and heavy sounding. I don't think this song will appeal
to new listeners but if you are experienced in the dubstep genre then
it will be a more comfortable listen. The final song “Fuck Nexus”
has a more positive introduction with a catchy melody but it becomes
more dance like when the heavy beat comes in. A heavy bass is soon
added and the song becomes much more dangerous sounding, It steadily
builds up for a powerful ending to bring about an exciting end to the
album.
Vario By Savant is Ascrono Music's
Album Of The Week because it is almost a perfect recipe for a dubstep
album, the range of tempo, structures and melodies really make the
album almost unpredictable and completely thrilling to listen to.
